Rich Welden
Wins Lake Anna tournament

I've only fished Lake Anna four times since 1998 and  have always focused on the Pamonkey creek, Terry's and Foremost Run areas on the Northwest side of Lake Anna for my tx successes.  This past club tournament was no exception.

The water at the extreme ends of those creek arms, to include Foremost Run (at the entrance to Terry's Run) is usually stained which makes catching bass in those areas easier than the clearer water areas throughout the lake.  Additionally, there are large flats located in those areas which tend to warm up faster.  On tx day water temp was 74 degrees at noon while other areas in the lake were 70-71. I think this was key due to the low to mid 40 degree temperatures over the past few nights.

My partner and I started in Foremost Run around 0900 and focused on topwater and chatter baits.  I caught my first keeper fish on a white and chartruese buzz bait around a dock with reeds near at about 0930. Ilya then caught his only keeper fish (1.14lbs) near an adjacent dock on a white chatter bait w/silver blade.  We then circled between three docks for the rest of the day where I was able to pick up three more keeper fish.  Other lures that worked for me were a green pumpkin 4" Senko which was wacky-rigged and skipped under the docks to produce three other keeper bass.  Over all, the day was nice and the company nicer.  I ended up with 5.03 lbs for first place and Ilya took seconds place and lunker with his sole 1.14lb Largemouth
